Complex Two Hearts

In the Complex System a 2 Opening shows 11-15 points and exactly 4-card Hearts with a 6-card or longer Diamond suit. The Opening is not forcing.

This Opening came about because we experienced a problem where in some sequences the 6th Diamond got "lost", to our detriment. The Reverse Roman Opening gave us an immediate knowledge of Opener's shape and easy access to Gamma and Eta Asks when Responder was strong.

Responses & Continuations

2 -2 is a forcing enquiry. Now:
-2NT shows a singleton Club, lower range.
-3 shows a singleton Spade, lower range.
-3 shows a void Club, lower range.
-3 shows a void Spade, lower range.
-3 shows a singleton Club, upper range.
-3NT shows a void Club, upper range.
-4 shows a singleton Spade, upper range.
-4 shows a void Spade, upper range.
Once any shortage has been shown the short suit can be used for Beta, but no Epsilons are permitted and Responder must set the final contract over the distribution enquiry or the Beta Ask.
-2NT is Lebensohl, forcing 3. Now:
-3 -3 is strictly "to play"
-3 is invitational, particularly wanting good trumps as well as an upper range hand.
-3 is strictly "to play"
-3NT is strictly "to play"
-4 is invitational in Clubs with at least a good 6-card suit.
-4 is invitational in Diamonds, particularly wanting good trumps as well as an upper range hand.
-3 is Eta in Hearts. A Relay over the Eta Response is Beta and Asking bids are now firmly established.
-3 is Gamma in Diamonds. A Relay over the Eta Response (excluding 3NT, which would be "to play") is Beta and Asking bids are now firmly established.
-3 is purely pre-emptive and fundamentally weak
-4 is purely pre-emptive and fundamentally weak
